Step 1: Meeting
Eligibility Criteria:
Becoming a Lieutenant in
the Nepal Army starts with meeting specific criteria. For those who have
completed their Intermediate level (plus 2), the age range is 18 to 21 years.
Alternatively, candidates who have finished their Bachelor's level education
must be aged between 18 and 24 years. These academic qualifications and age
brackets form the foundation for those aspiring to take up this honourable role.
Step 2: Fulfilling Bearing and Physical Requirements:
Bearing a check means checking for unusual changes in the body like hypertension of hands, badly arranged teeth, lack of hearing, knee locking, flat foot and more also followed by a pre-medical test.
In addition to academic qualifications, candidates must fulfil specific physical standards to demonstrate readiness for the challenges ahead. This includes maintaining a weight of 50 Kg and a height of 5' 3". Candidates are also required to undergo a series of physical tests:
Push Up: 10 times ( less for girls)
Sit Up: 15 times
Chin Up: 3 times
Two-Mile Running: Boys -
Complete in 16 minutes / Girls - Complete in 21 minutes
300 Meter Running:
Complete in 55 seconds / Girls-
I.Q. Test: 60 marks (30
minutes)
Step 4: Mastering Written Exams:
Candidates excelling in the physical tests and IQ progress to the written examinations held by Lok Sewa Aayog, a critical aspect of the selection process. The written exams encompass multiple subjects:
English, Mathematics
& Nepali: 100 marks each / 20 marks for objective and 80 marks for subjective. (3 hours for each subject)
General Knowledge: 100
marks (90 minutes)
Step 5: Demonstrating
Psychological Fitness:
Successful candidates in
the written exams move on to various psychological evaluations, including roles
such as Technical Officer (TO), Group Tasking Officer (GTO), Interviewing
Officer (IO), and board conference. These assessments gauge candidates'
aptitude, problem-solving skills, teamwork abilities, and personal attributes.
Step 7: After the Medical exam, candidates need to go through the final Board Interview which will be the final test for selection.
Step 8: Training at
Officer Cadet Training Center:
After meeting these milestones, aspiring Lieutenants enter the Officer Cadet Training Center located in Kharipati, Bhaktapur, for intensive training. This comprehensive 3-year program hones their skills, knowledge, and leadership capabilities, preparing them for the responsibilities of an Officer Cadet.
